Background information
The Frida Kahlo Collection at the Gehrke-Remund Art Museum (known as the Frida Kahlo Museum) is a major tourist attraction in Baden-Baden, Germany.
Unique in the world.
Founded in 2008, the museum displays all of Frida Kahlo’s works as masterfully hand-painted replicas, along with photographs, historical videos, Mexican dresses and jewellery such as those worn and painted by Frida Kahlo – over 1,000 exhibits in total.
The museum is the only institution in the world to have received authorisation from the Mexican government to have all 134 paintings by the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo replicated and exhibited.
The museum and the exhibition can be relocated and displayed anywhere in the world, as the collection is not tied to any specific property.
The management and owners will not remain involved, unless support and a transfer of expertise are required during the handover phase.

The paintings in the ‘Frida Kahlo Collection’ featured in the exhibitions at the Gehrke-Remund Art Museum are licensed replicas from © Banco de México Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo Museums Trust / VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn 2008. The Kunstmuseum Gehrke-Remund is the only museum in the world to have been granted permission to have all of an artist’s works reproduced. A replica is a faithful reproduction of a work of art that has either been produced by the artist themselves or authorised by the artist’s copyright heirs following the artist’s death. In the case of Frida Kahlo, the copyright heirs of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera are the State of Mexico, represented by Banco de México. A replica must represent the original painting in terms of size, style, colours and materials, and if the artist signed the original, the replica must also be signed. In accordance with the requirements of the Bank of Mexico, the reverse of each replica bears the inscription: “Licensed replica of © Banco de México Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo Museums Trust / VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn 2008”. Each replica has been hand-painted by master artists, whose identities and own works can be viewed in the final room of the museum.
